We were so enamored with their last single we gave it single of the week! Ex Slowdiver, Ex Charlottes (worra band!) Simon Scott comes up trumps again with this post shoegaze, atmospheric glitchathon. This is well lush..... Why Ulrich Schnauss is massive and this guy isn't is a mystery to me. The layers and depth this guy creates in his music is really inspiring. He's also got a real keen ear for melody, chuck in some Fennesz style crackles and whizzles and you've got a thoroughly splendid CD. 'Sometimes Splendid Confusion' is CD only and if you're into pastoral sounding shoegaze (nugaze?) music like Epic 45, The Schnuasser etc you'll wet yourself when you crack this one off. 01 D Format: CD Read this excerpt from Norman Records: "Also on Drifting Falling is a marvelous CD by Matt Bartram from the band Air Formation. This is some proper old school shoegazing with hypnotic guitars... at times it's a bit rocky and there's a healthy dose of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized in there. It's very uplifting and rousing, and I am rather enjoying the walls of guitars I can hear every so often which is taking me back to my misspent youth, reminding me of failed attempts at pulling miserable girls. Ah them were the days..... A really strong release if you're into shoegazing and to be honest I've not heard a duffer on this label so it's certainly one to watch out for..... 'Arundel' is CD only. Track 4 (Perfect Sound) is the total winner for me with it's double super twinkliness stylings. It's great. To top it all off there's a Mole Harness mix at the end which is just superb. 01 Broken but Still Working Read this excerpt from Smallfish: "Following on from the absolutely gorgeous Benbecula Minerals Series CD we had from Alec Cheer last year comes this simply divine offering on London's Drifting Falling label. As a solo guitar album it's really quite exquisite and there's a wonderful balance between catchy, lightly folky instrumental numbers and a more sculptural, processed sound. That, for me, is really where this CD hits its stride... the longer, more densely constructed pieces are absolutely beautiful and really bring to mind the looped, hypnotic sound of artists such as Windy and Carl or even - possibly more pertinently - Jasper Leyland or Mole Harness. Whichever way you look at it, this CD is just brilliant and comes with a very high recommendation indeed." It instantly sounds more experimental with building sounds behind the finger picked acoustic guitar. Though this is not actually a Drifting Falling release, we're very pleased to add The Cause of the Colour to our online store. A precursor to the forthcoming "Soft Focus" this mini-album is a touchstone for many with the ability to simultaneously put a lump in your throat and melt your face off.
01 Fragmented Read this excerpt from Angry Ape: "Opening with Fragmented and A Brief Moment Of Clarity, both songs share the same mathematical approach as Far Away Trains Passing By, from acclaimed producer Ulrich Schnauss. Vocals are dipped in ethereal effects and reverb echoes, while deep synth basslines shake the speakers. The instrumentals are where Oppressed By The Line truly shines. Tracks like Even are multi-layered with rich, melodic synths and lush atmospheric sounds. Church organs begin with click beats and gentle hip hop loops, before the crescendo of shoegazing feedback and dreamy layers of guitar distortion kicks in. Too electronica based to be embraced by indie kids, The Cause Of The Colour will instead, appeal to fans of Ulrich Schnauss, Manual and Guitar." Opener 'Fragmented' is the even more downbeat doppelganger to The Field Mice's 'Let's Kiss And Make Up' while 'A Painting Of A Tapestry' is a disturbing electro distress call that is eerily reminiscent of some of the more disparaging moments of Joy Division's Closer opus.
